An event to energize a neighborhood.
Imagine Louisville’s 4th Street as an active and creative corridor.
This bold idea sprung from Vision Louisville and the Rose Fellowship Fourth Street Corridor study. To bring this idea to life, Louisville Metro Government and the SoBro Neighborhood Association, in partnership with Vision Louisville is proud to present the SoBro ArtWalks.
The goal of this contest to promote and energize the Fourth Street corridor in the SoBro neighborhood. The contest encourages local creative individuals to develop artistic designs to enhance a mundane, but necessary amenity – the crosswalk. Not only does crosswalk art make the streets look more unique and creative; crosswalk design programs in other cities have been beneficial in traffic calming, fostering local neighborhood identity, and increasing pedestrian safety.
The contest wrapped up on August 22, 2014. The entries are now being reviewed by our judges panel. Winners will be announced shortly. Please join us for the painting event on September 14, 2014. If you would like to volunteer to help us paint, please contact Jeff O’Brien at 574.1354 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Four intersections along the 4th Street corridor will be painted as part of this contest: 1) Broadway, 2) York, 3) Breckinridge, and 4) Kentucky. The winning design will be painted on the crosswalks by community volunteers during a SoBro neighborhood event, scheduled for September 14, 2014. PPG Porter Paints is donating paint and supplies for this event.
In addition to painting, we will have a family event to showcase the SoBro Neighborhood. There will be live music, sidewalk chalk, Yoga, garden tours, history tours and a bike raffle. Please join us for a fun and creative event!
